Lunch Time At The Lake

I happened upon this scene this afternoon. Mama was cracking open snails and digging the meat out, while her baby was waiting to get hold of the meat. It was quite a task for the big bird to open up the snail, and every once in a while a black bird would come along and try to steal the food. The baby would go after it aggressively, then go back under her mother. You can see how big the meat was. The mother would pick it up, the baby would snatch it out of her beak, but it was way too big for it to swallow. I took over fifty pictures of this scene. (I am not obsessive.)

This is the same mother and babies I showed for Mother's Day ... but now there are only three babies. Two must have become lunch for and eagle or an otter. How sad.

She was up on the ledge, just watching her babies floating around beneath her. When I got a little too close, she flew away, and landed on the first tall grass island in the distance. She started cooing and her babies lined up and swam out to her!! I was amazed.

The way this RV (Recreational Vehicle) Dealer stuck these old RVs into the ground kind of reminded me of Stonehendge! Creative disposal of used vehicles, calling attention to their dealership a few hundreds yards away, and eye candy for people like me. I'm sure someone doesn't like it, though.

I took the photo while doing about 70 mph on I-4 just outside of Tampa ... my windshield is filthy with dead bugs, and that's my antenna sticking straight up in the center. All I could do was guess, point, and shoot ... traffic was heavy.

I took the scenic route back from South Florida a couple of days ago and pulled over to get a shot of this plant. What you see here is only a fraction of the trailers that were lined up waiting to be processed, and less than half of the plant is visible. I just couldn't get a full shot because of obstructions and traffic. Next time!

This is a walkway at Water Tower Place in Celebration. I was photographing the Water Tower when I noticed how beautiful this was, so I took a few pictures. It would only do to have vertical shots because of the nature of the structure. In case you haven't noticed in the past, most of my vertical shots 'lean' to the left ... I must be crooked! I tried 3 or 4 times to get a straight shot, and finally gave up and purposely turned the camera left, then right! The left shot would have made you dizzy!

These three were showing off in front of some people that were enjoying the St Cloud Lakefront last Friday! The people were walking away when I got there and the jet skiers had slowed down. Once they saw me with my camera pointed in their direction, they started up again speeding past one another, circling in and out, and kicking up some serious lake water. They were tough to keep up with ... this is one of the only shots with all three in the frame.

He was moving pretty fast when I shot this ... he had just got into the water. He slowed down a little and kind of indicated he might come my way, but thought better of it, and headed for the east bank - he must have known I was George, I mean Champ Townboy!

Look at the water, just a little from the left, you'll see a black spot with a circular ripple around it ... that's a Gator. He ducked when he saw me!!

Shingle Creek

Shingle Creek is a small waterway in Central Florida that is generally considered to be the northernmost headwaters of the Everglades. It is named after cypress trees that lined the bank in the late 1800's that were used to make wood shingles. The creek and areas around it are protected wetlands.

The creek begins in a swamp area of south Orange County, Florida, a few miles east of the International Drive tourist corridor and west of John Young Parkway. From there it flows south under the Beachline Expressway and Osceola Parkway to Kissimmee in Osceola County, Florida where it turns directly east and flows into Lake Tohopekaliga. From there water flows into the Kissimmee River system to south Florida and the Everglades.

I was driving home after hunting the Gator, but I had already decided to enter the Project Yellow, so I had my open for opportunities. The light turned yellow just before I got to my turn. Mmmm. Yellow lights!! Great shot, if there's something backing it up. How about those flags? I know, I've lost it.

I decided I would wait and shoot the lights when they turn yellow again. I waited, and waited, and waited. My big strong arms got tired of holding up the camera waiting to shoot the lights through my dirty windshield. All of a sudden a flock of white birds came flying by in a V formation. OMG!! I quickly changed my focus and tried to shoot the birds.

She was hanging around begging at the base of a tree next to where I parked. I told her I was sorry that I didn't have anything to give her. She jumped up on the hood of my truck and proceeded to prance for me, while I took a slew of pictures through the windshield. Eventually I got out and took some more, but the ones through the windshield came out the best, lol. She finally let me go, when she was convinced I wasn't joking about not having any food for her!
